"While studying at the New York Studio School, my goal was to create something that I had never made.  I developed paintings through a process: by initially creating a shape and secondarily, responding to the shape and continuing on with this process until satisfied with the painting.  The juztaposition of forms within the paintings creates interacting characters suggestive of narratives.  Images and stories from my childhood inspire the titles and provide a basis for the ambiguous content of the work.  I resist grandeur creating images that are naive or of a innocent mind searching to understand a more complex reality.  Irreverent to modern views of art these simplified shapes are inspired by post-minimalists such as Richard Tuttle and Eva Hesse, as well as, Jonathan Lasker and Eric Sall."
"The paintings for this exhibition examine the vitality and emotionality inherent in paint.  Completed during a summer session at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture, these gouache on paper works illustrate semitransparent bands of color and gestural structures that describe paint as a subject unto itself.  Form and color developed simultaneously, resulting in shapes that occupy a capacity of intuition.  The improvisational compositions and elliptical nature of theses paintings were a way of anchoring myself in the studio while living with some of these elements for a brief period of time."
